MIKE BAGDONAS

ALLA PRIMA STUDIO LANDSCAPE PAINTING WORKSHOP

Mike Bagdonas, a nationally recognized award winning Quick study, Plein Air, Landscape and Western genre artist, will be holding this three day intensive small landscape study to large studio painting workshop. The workshop will be held  in Folsom, CA at an as yet to be announced location from October 16, 2009 to October 18, 2009. The workshop hours will be from approximately 8:30 AM to 4PM each day (one hour break for lunch).

Mike will demonstrate small thumbnail sketches from photography followed by small oil studies in color on the first day and turning those studies into a larger studio painting on the second day.  The original photograph will not be used to block in this studio painting.  Only later will it be used to add greater detail if needed to the painting.

Participants will spend each day working on their own studies using the demonstrated methods. Mike will be interacting with each participant assisting them, as needed, toward a successful completion of their sketches, studies and the final studio painting.  He will be stressing the “alla prima” method of oil painting (wet into wet paint) along with accurate quick draw methods, as well as accurate value assessments, color relationships, composition and design.

This workshop is for beginning to Advanced artists working in oil. Beginning artists must have basic drawing skills and knowledge of oil painting techniques before undertaking these quick study methods in an alla prima manner.  We will not be tracing or copying images other then by sight.  If you are a beginning to advanced artist this workshop will help you to stop using photographs alone for your studio paintings that contain unrealistic value or compositional attributes that lead to poor representations of the landscape.  This workshop will also help you to be better prepared to paint "en plein air" and then turn those paintings into large studio paintings that possess a feeling of light and spontaneity.

The cost of this workshop will be two hundred seventy-five dollars.  Please contact Barbara Otey, Folsom Arts Association at (916)  608-9153 or Email her at barbotey@comcast.net to reserve your  space.

Please telephone or Email the artist for further information.
